When asked about The Equine Journey my mind goes in a million different directions, much like my days. Do I write about the horses, their history, how they came to be a part of The Equine Journey? Do I write about the individuals that make all this possible or the young people that give us purpose? What about the scholarship students that would not have the financial means to experience the equine world, training, tack, showing….? The clients that are unable to attend a normal day at school, but flourish at the barn. Our program is not about one thing…it is about a thousand little things. Horses that were tied to cinder blocks left to perish, owners that passed, owners that picked another “hobby”, OTTB that careers ended for one reason or another, misunderstood equine the list goes on and on. A Parent that though their son would never be responsible enough to be left alone much less receive his high school diploma, driver license…. Girls learning to speak up for themselves. Teenagers discovering that they can develop healthy relationships. Sponsors that allow us to have appropriate safe tack, provide healthy grain and hay. Trainers that are willing to go the extra mile for our students and of course the barn manager and groom that make everyday possible. Little riders that are so excited to come to the barn that you can literally see the smiles for miles. Volunteers that show up when snow is on the ground, when there is no power or water… hauling buckets of water from their homes and businesses to make sure all the equines have sufficient hydration. If pressed to summarize the program: The Equine Journey provides an opportunity for humans and equines to interact. Our horses allow people to breath deeply , be quiet, listen and learn.
